Dylan's Arts on Chicago Projects: What Grows Here and Where We're Going/Where We're At
Dylan Fresco is a theater artist, storyteller, musician and educator based here in Minneapolis. He’s the creator of two hit plays for the Minnesota Fringe Festival, including Domino’s Pizza Saved My Life, which toured to sell-out crowds at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, DC. In 2011, he was commissioned by Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council, to create Welcoming The Stranger, a solo performance piece that weaves together stories of refugees, family, and faith. He shares it now with theater audiences, college students, and professional groups as part of cultural competency training.
As an actor, Dylan has appeared with the Guthrie, Children’s Theatre Company, Ten Thousand Things, Penumbra, Theater Latté Da, and Pillsbury House Theatre’s Breaking Ice Group, and he’s a core artist with The Unit Collective. He performs widely as a singer/songwriter, playing Russian ballads and original ukulele tunes. He’s also a frequent contributor of stories and song to Minnesota Public Radio.
Dylan is a teaching artist with Upstream Arts, where he works with children and adults with disabilities to improve their social and communication skills through the arts. He’s taught with the Guthrie, Steppingstone, and the Minneapolis Public Schools. He’s also a playwright and performer for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s educational programming, and was part of the creative team for a live interactive TV show for patients and families at Children’s Hospital.
Other community involvement work includes being a frequent volunteer with Pillsbury House’s Chicago Avenue Project and a member of the advisory committee for the Refugee Resettlement program of the MN Council of Churches.
Originally from New York City, Dylan is a graduate of Carleton College and the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre.
In my work, I share myself through story and song, inviting people to connect with me, each other, themselves, and people they’ll never meet. I believe in the power of stories told through art to change the world for the better; I’m an advocate of entertainment and the simple pleasure of laughing with others.
