Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center CAFAC's Arts on Chicago Project »
The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center’s mission is to inspire hands, hearts, and minds through art forms produced by heat, spark, or flame. Since the opening of our home at 38 th & Chicago, we’ve offered an array of classes to youth and adults in sculptural welding, blacksmithing, jewelry, and electronics. We have also led or been involved with several community-developed public art projects, such as our own SPEAK Project installations (2005-2010) and the Lee Family Memorial sculpture (2011). With the production of a mural entitled “Hothouse” on our north wall – a large expanse highly visible from Chicago Avenue – we will put into action our five core values:
- Provide a supportive learning environment, open to all with an interest.
- Inspire creativity and innovation.
- Share our knowledge of traditional arts and crafts in order to preserve them for future generations.
- Promote adaptive reuse of materials and promote sustainability practices.
- Catalyze and participate in positive action in our neighborhood.
