Adam's Arts on Chicago Projects: Poetry Mobile and Little Free Library
Adam Croft is a born and bred resident of Minneapolis. He has attempted to master several pursuits ranging from restaurant chef, motorcycle mechanic, graphic designer, to his current work as a sculptor/fabricator and aspiring public artist. Adam works in the Seward/Longfellow neighborhood where he runs “aecCo custom,” a design/build studio producing public art work, multi-media sculpture, and functional commercial and residential commissions. His work can be seen locally at the Peace Coffee Wonderland Park Cafe in Minneapolis, Bacio restaurant in Minnetonka, as well several other locations across the US and Japan.
This opportunity to work on the Poetry Mobile with the Arts On Chicago project has led me to take a closer look at the history of the street. As a transportation thoroughfare Chicago Avenue is inexorably linked with technological issues related to the movement of cargo and commuters. Our project, as a mobile and functional sculpture moving people and ideas along the avenue, will force me to address some of these challenges such as, convenience weighed against impact and idealism vs. feasibility. I look forward to imperfectly resolving some of these issues that all societies have, and continue to face, as they design transportation systems for the present and future.
In addition to conceptual considerations I will be focusing on how everyone involved in the creation of our project will both contribute and receive something meaningful from the experience.
