StevenBe is the vision of fiber impresario Steven Berg, known aound the world as the “Glitter Knitter.” Our studio is built on a wealth of experience, a firm belief in the transformative power of creativity, and a wickedly playful sense of style. StevenBe puts the diversity of local businesses, artists, designers and more at the heart of this vision.

Steven has been blurring the lines between art and craft since his mother taught him to knit as a child. By the age of 8, he was designing and creating sequined gowns for the Barbie dolls of neighborhood friends.  His love of design led him to an education at Parsons and the Fashion Institute in New York, emerging as a international designer and buyer traveling the globe. It was a natural progression after years of corporate dealings, that Steven return to his roots and reconnect with his true passion, sharing fiber arts with others.

The StevenBe Creative Community Foundation, created in late 2011, brought together the charitable work of knitters and fiber arts enthusiasts under one roof. The Foundation has grown to support Hats for the Homeless, various youth programs, recovery programs, and fundraising efforts for others. The Foundation is committed to engaging and uplifting others through fiber arts.

Artist Statement

Handwork starts it. From the beginning, the process of transforming string into cloth strikes us as magical. This magical process has its way with many, leading from hobby to art. Knitting, crochet, and fiber arts fill our participants with a sense of accomplishment and integrity, and has proven a most amenable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality, leaving no continuous strand unknit.

As our business enters its fourth year on the corner of 35th and Chicago, we are proud of the work already taking place and are excited to participate in the future of our corridor.  Giving back to our community through fiber arts has been a mainstay of our decision to locate our business here.
