In the News: ArtPlace grants $1.3 million to Twin Cities

$250,000 grant goes to make visible the ‘Arts on Chicago’

As a part of the “Arts on Chicago” initiative, 20 creative placemaking projects will happen in the coming year along the Chicago Avenue corridor in South Minneapolis, to help brand the arts district. Pillsbury House + Theatre, where professional theater and social services have been integrated in recent years, received $250,000 for the project from ArtPlace, a national funding group. Pillsbury is working with a handful of local partners on the project.

ArtPlace grants will help grow the Twin Cities’ ‘creative economy’

Four Twin Cities arts groups have been awarded a total of $1.3 million in grants from ArtPlace “to accelerate creative placemaking.” Announced Tuesday, grants go to Intermedia Arts ($325,000), the Native American Community Development Institute ($435,000), Pillsbury House Theatre ($250,000), and Public Art St. Paul ($300,000). Fifteen Minnesota finalists were named in January; these four emerged as winners. There were 127 finalists nationally. Fifteen out of 127 is not too shabby, Minnesota.

ArtPlace injects Twin Cities with $1.3 million in grants

ArtPlace, the same organization which funded a major community development project along Twin Cities central lightrail corridor, is now funding four new cultural initiatives in the Twin Cities. Each of these projects is aimed at bringing creative placemaking to urban communities, and incorporating the arts into city planning.

$1.3 million sparks Twin Cities creative projects

Four Twin Cities arts groups will receive $1.3 million over the next year to deploy artists and the arts to improve civic and cultural life. The funds come from ArtPlace, a relatively new national initiative by 11 major foundations, eight federal agencies and six banks “to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S,” according to the announcement made Tuesday.
